Song Seven: Schoolyard Beauty

Chastity, always the centre of attention, features in this good old tribute to Australian rock from the '70s and '80s. If you're well versed in classic Australian rock from this period then you may just catch bits and pieces of such artists as Dragon, Paul Kelly and Men At Work. A completely original piece, I used the chord progressions from parts of some of the songs and mixed them with the rhythms of others and threw it all together into a piece that intends to pay homage to the sounds that I grew up with on the radio, and sounds that are still being broadcast today.

Chastity is the central figure in the song, while her sidekicks Pandora and Liberty sing backing vocals like the Supremes. Casper and Cody each get short interludes through the slower refrains.

The piece is written in four with a heavy, piano based rock feel. Guitars feature in the rhythm and a saxophone contributes a few riffs like all good old classic rock songs do! It was written and arranged using Sibelius 3.

Cheers.

Schoolyard Beauty

(The words in italics are sung by Pandora and Liberty)

Not just a cutie, a Schoolyard Beauty.
Boys at my command.
Snap my fingers and all these lingerers
Worship where I stand.
She's such a thriller,
A proven schoolboy killer,
She loves 'em, then she leaves 'em.

But only just for fun!

Not just a cutie, a Schoolyard Beauty.
They're wrapped around my thumb.
Blow some kisses and all these Misters walk
To the beat of my own drum.
She likes the power,
The chocolates and the flowers,
She does as she pleases.
I don't hurt anyone!

(Cody)

She won't see the pain we feel,
Won't believe our hearts are real,
From her schoolyard royal throne,
A heart of stone.

Not just a cutie, a Schoolyard Beauty.
Million dollar smile.
You've never seen, there's never been
A girl with this much style!
We all admire her,
And all we desire
Is to be half as popular
Half as popular as moi? Huh!

Not just a cutie, a Schoolyard Beauty.
They're wrapped around my thumb.
Blow some kisses and all these Misters walk
To the beat of my own drum.
She likes the power,
The chocolates and the flowers,
She does as she pleases.
I don't hurt anyone!

(Casper)

Will she ever change her ways

Before the closing of our play?
Will she ever notice me?
Let's wait and see.

Not just a cutie, a Schoolyard Beauty.
Boys at my command.
Snap my fingers and all these lingerers
Worship where I stand.
She's such a thriller,
A proven schoolboy killer,
She loves 'em, then she leaves 'em.

But only just for fun!

(Casper and Cody)

Will she ever change her ways
Before the closing of our play?
We don't think she ever shall.
(Casper) But what a gal!
