School Spirit:

The Musical

Return to

Song Six: Until Forever Ends

While the adventures of the children and the spirits were the focus for much of the musical, the true core of the story revolved around Mrs Williams, the elderly widowed teacher of the grade. Miss Conway replaced her in the strip, but her name lives on as the religious education teacher in the comic, although it's basically a different character at this point.

This song is the true romantic piece of the story, a love ballad concerning Mrs Williams and her Soldier who never returned home from the war. The Soldier would stride onto stage between verses and take up the song for the second verse before both would sing together (although Mrs Williams never realises he is in the room with her) the final chorus. This song, and the little story that revolves around it, were considered by the audiences to be the most memorable part of the musical.

The piece is written in four with a slow, ballad feel. It is based around a simple piano introduction and a simple melody for what is, at heart, a simple yet sincere song. It was written and arranged using Sibelius 3.

Until Forever Ends

Mrs Williams

Picture a young girl dressed in white,
Her Soldier by her side.
Now see my groom waving from the boat;
I'm just another wartime bride.
He looked so bold in his uniform
Just like the day we wed.
He lifted my chin, looked in my eyes
And this is what he said

While I am gone,
If you're alone,
Afraid of what the daylight may send,
Don't be afraid,
I'll always be there
Until forever ends.

The Soldier

You're still my young girl dressed in white.
I wish you wouldn't cry.
But time and age haven't lined your face,
You're still my pretty wartime bride.
It's been so long since I've held your hand but
I'm still your Soldier tall.
Just listen close, I am that voice
You're hearing in the hall.

I've not been gone,
You're not alone,
Don't be afraid of what the daylight may send.
Don't be afraid,
I'll always be here
Until forever ends.

Instrumental

Both (The Soldier in italics)

But he's still gone, (I've not been gone)
I'm still alone, (You're not alone)
(Don't be) Afraid of what the daylight may send.
I miss him still, (Don't be afraid)
I'll/He'd always be here,
Until forever ends.
