School Spirit:

The Musical

Return to

Song One: Didn't See You There Variation #1

The three members of the Barber Ghost Quartet from the opening number made a reappearance about halfway through the first act to add a bit of background to the mysterious, ghostly character of Yorick Heep, the grumpy old spirit in the cemetery. The character of Yorick is also yet to make an appearance in the comic, and at this stage it is unlikely that he will.

This was, again, a silly little ditty and simple a short variation on the original opening number, being the Barber Ghost Quartet's signature tune. In this short instance they filled in a little bit of the story as to why they are a quartet of only three, who their fourth member is, and just why they've all ended up dead in the first place.

The piece is written in four with a swinging rhythm intended to remind of the swing period. It uses a few jazz chords although instrumentation is primarily piano, guitar, bass and strings. It was written and arranged using Sibelius 3.

Cheers.

Didn't See You There Variation #1

We once were a quartet until the three of us bought it
And the man who's to blame is sitting there.
He threw the car into reverse, then told us as he drove the hearse
'I'm sorry, but I didn't see
I'm sorry, but I didn't see
I'm sorry, but I didn't see you there.'
