School Spirit:

The Musical

Return to

Song One: Didn't See You There

The opening number of the show, this piece features the three members of the Barber Ghost Quartet who pop up from time to time during the story. Yes, a quartet is made up of four members - the fourth is revealed later. Being a barber shop quartet, the piece is reflective of that style while at the same time giving an idea on the underlying theme of the whole story. Basically, be aware of the people around you and let them know you appreciate them.

At this stage, the barber ghost quartet are unlikely to make an appearance in the comic. They were there to help narrate the story, tell a few bad jokes, and sing several variations of this song. Little more.

The piece is written in four with a swinging rhythm intended to remind of the swing period. It uses a few jazz chords although instrumentation is primarily piano, guitar, bass and strings. It was written and arranged using Sibelius 3.

Cheers.

Didn't See You There

Looking about you, sometimes you miss out, you
Sometimes overlook who is there.
Your thoughts occupied with ambition and pride
You say 'I'm sorry, but I didn't see you there.'

Keep your eyes open, some friends may be hoping
That you won't forget they were there.
You may be successful, who care 'bout the rest? Ooh,
Well they're part of the reason that you're there.

Looking about you, sometimes you miss out, you
Sometimes overlook who is there.
They'll think of you less if you're someone who says
These words; 'I'm sorry but I didn't see you there.'

Don't be mistaken, life's there for the taking
As long as you play the game fair.
So join in the spirit, just don't let them hear you say
'I'm sorry, but I didn't see
I'm sorry, but I didn't see
I'm sorry, but I didn't see you there.'
