Yes, it rains in Australia...

Other Schoolyard News

But probably not enough.

In actual fact, we've had a decent amount of rain, wet, windy weather and general chilly temperatures. Not bad for late Spring. That means most of the paddocks and stuff are green, and the bush is a little damp at the moment. Mind you, that's only put the fire season back by about two weeks. Within two weeks any of that moisture will be gone and we'll be back to good old dry Australian bushland just waiting for a chance to burn. I love the little feeling of tension you get out here in summer on those hot days, just wondering if today will be the day you'll see that first wisp of smoke above the treeline...was quite spooky the last two times it happened.

Early 2001 a lot of the loca reserve got burned out and threatened to take out some houses. It happened on the other side of the Hill (hills are pretty big down here...many hills can make up one Hill), so there wasn't much danger where we were at that point. In 2003 one threatened to take out half of the local town, which was even more interesting. Once again, the local CFA held it all back for us.

That's why our bush firefighters tend to make annual pilgrimages to California to show them how to fight fires properly. Honestly, they get more fires than us, yet this part of Australia is the most bushfire prone locality in the world.

Anyway...that's my weekend task now...get the yard cut and start bushfire proofing the joint. And of course it's gonna be hot...God has a sense of humour.

Oh...and I've still got those reports to write...

More fan art by me! In the gallery is a new one for Cortland.

-= SCHOOL SPIRIT: Change of Forum =-

Over the next few days we are moving forums to a smaller community one.. If I can move the few threads from our current one across, I will do so. Don't hold out too many hopes for them though. I am not that clever.

So yeah, drop by and write an end of year report for us, I'll link a new one in the new forum, cos no one's bothered to use the other one yet.

-= Quote of the Day =-

'Can we do projects more often? I like not doing real work.'
